The past few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind and I haven't had time to sit down and reflect on return to terrestrial radio - until now.
Friday, August 9th, I signed a 2 year contract with Mix 94.1. In less than a week I was hosting a 36-hour live broadcast in the parking lot of Thursday's Plaza to benefit Wishes Can Happen.
I've never - in my 11 year broadcast career - sat in front of a microphone that long. It was definately an experience, but one that I'll never forget. It was an amazing feeling to be a part of something so special, and the fact that we were able to raise over $138,000 to grant kids with life threatening illnesses is something I've never had the honor to witness.
When it was all over I was tired, almost to the point of hallucinations. It was quite a personal accomplishment however - I did it! In 36 hours I never stepped away from that microphone.
The Wish-A-Thon was over, but I didn't have time to rest. Monday morning I was set to begin my morning drive tenure with Kathy at 6 AM.
I've been given a tremendous opportunity. Kathy and Rik had built a sizable audience in the 5 years they were together, and I'd been "off the air" terrestrially for 18 months. Better not screw this one up DeLuca!
Luckily for me, Kathy Vogel is an amazing partner and I'm honored to be working with her. She knows the station, the audience, and we share a clear direction - to create an informative, funny, relevant, and listener interactive morning show.
Almost two weeks in, we're getting there! You've been so gracious in welcoming me to the station and the show. Management has been fully supportive and I couldn't ask for a better group of co-workers. Mix is really an amazing station and I'm honored and humbled to work at such an institution.
To those of you who've listened to me for years - welcome back! To those that have enjoyed Mix 94.1 for years - hello. I hope you all will continue to listen, tell your friends about your newest Northeast Ohio morning radio option, and will interact with us - whether via text, email, social media, or by picking up the phone and letting us hear whats on your mind.
Talk to you soon!
