Man Accused in August Crime Spree Ruled Not Competent

CANTON, Ohio (WHBC) – The Lake Township man who is accused of going on a one-man crime spree last summer has been declared not competent to stand trial.

Court officials say 50-year-old Richard Rhodes could be restored to competency after another year.

He faces vandalism and arson-related charges.

St Nikolai Orthodox in Nimishillen Township was set on fire, with damage also done to St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church in Alliance last August.

Rhodes is also suspected of shooting out windows in a state patrol cruiser, in an ODOT outpost vehicle and at the glass front door of Hartville Hardware.
