Massillon Mourns Loss of Favorite Son in Westerville

MASSILLON, OHIO (WHBC) – The city of Massillon has issued a statement with the death of Officer Tony Morelli in Westerville; Morelli grew up in Massillon.

They extend their sympathies to Anthony and Carolyn Morelli, lifelong residents of the city, and father and mother of Officer Morelli.

Separate funerals are being held for the two officers killed in the ambush.

A private event for Morelli takes place Thursday night at the Moreland Funeral Home in Westerville.

Officer Tony Morelli of the Westerville Police Department along with Officer Eric Joering were shot dead Saturday while responding to a 911 call.

The families in a separate statement ask for privacy

The suspect, Quentin Smith, is charged with aggravated murder and remains hospitalized.
