 EVENTS for WEEK of OCTOBER 27, 2014:

The Junior League of Stark County has announced the creation of the JUNIOR LEADERS COMMUNITY SERVICE GRANT.  This grant will fund service projects led by girls in grades K - 12.  Two grants of up to $2,500.00 will be awarded.  Info and application materials can be found at:   www.jlstarkcounty.org  under the "In Action" tab and are due by January 31, 2015.  

The Malone University Writers Series will present this year's Stafford Lecturer, author David Hinton on Oct. 28th and 29th at the University on Cleveland Ave. NW in Canton.  Both programs are free and open to the public.  "THE SPIRITUAL ECOLOGY of ANCIENT CHINA" will be presented at 7 pm on Tues. Oct. 28th and "A POETRY READING" will be featured on Wed. Oct. 29th at 4 pm.   Call 330 471-8239 for more details.

TIME BANKING is a community program where participants exchange skills, talents, and passions for a time credit, which may then, in turn, be exchanged for needed services offered by others involved in the time bank.  Learn more about this program on Thurs. St. Clements will be hosting AN ULSTER PROJECT CRAFT FAIR on Sat. Nov. 1st from 9 am - 4 pm at their Parish Hall on Wooster St. East in Navarre.  Featuring over 50 crafters, a bake sale, food and much more.

The Wilderness Center will be sponsoring A NATURE FEST ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW on Sat. Nov. 1st from 9 am - 4 pm.  Featuring artisans and crafters who depict nature in their work.   For directions and more info, call 1-877 359-5235.

All children in grades K - 5 are invited to The Stark County - East Canton Branch Library on N. Wood St. in East Canton to help celebrate the release of DIARY of a WIMPY KID - BOOK RELEASE PARTY on Sat. Artist Alex Strader will teach the Massillon Museum's two-week CARTOON LAB for students ages 12 and older and adults.  The hands-on session will be held on Saturdays, November 8th and 15th from 1 - 3 pm.     Tuition for the lab is $ 35 for non-members and $ 25 for members and you must register by phone at 330 833-4061, my mail, or in person.

The City of Green is hosting the 2nd ANNUAL GREEN GIVES BACK,  a citywide food drive, beginning Nov. 1st through Dec. 31st to benefit Green Good Neighbors.    Call 330 806-0311 or visit:   www.cityofgreen.org for a complete list of needed items and drop off locations.

There will be a special 5-week ART HISTORY CLASS for homeschool students ages 10 and younger at the Massillon Museum, beginning Nov. 4th from 10 - 11 am.     Tuition for the class is $ 50 for non-members; and $ 40 for members and includes all instruction and class supplies.  Pre-registration is required by Thurs. The Stark County Court Appointed Special Advocate and Guardian ad LITEM (CASA/GAL) PROGRAM is expanding into Carroll County.      The program trains volunteers who are then appointed by Family Court judges to watch over and advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children until their cases are closed and they are placed in safe and permanent homes.  To learn more, call 330 451-7282.

The Men's Club of St. Haralambos Church will be hosting the 2014 HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL COACHES PREVIEW on Thurs. Nov. 13th at The Alex D. Krassas Event Center on 25th and Harvard Sts. NW in Canton.  Social hour begins at 5:30 pm;  buffet dinner at 6:30 pm and the coaches panel at 7:30 pm.    Admission is $ 15 per person and this will include the dinner.  Pre-paid reservations must be made by or before Thurs. THE OHIO YOUNG BIRDER'S ANNUAL CONFERENCE will be held on Sat.
