Last night was the season finale of Deadliest Catch and there were PLENTY of unanswered questions that I think will bring viewers back next April. First of all, I think EVERYONE will want to see if the Cornelia Marie is back for king crab season and how Josh and Jake are doing. Knowing the Cornelia Marie was continuing their opilio season until April was unbelievable. We saw how exhausted the crews of the other boats were after 2 months fishing opis, I can't imagine how tired the Cornelia Marie guys were after 4 months at sea! But it seemed like Josh had found some peace, which was nice to see. It was also good to see Jake getting the help he needed at a rehab facility. And knowing that seagulls represent past fishermen did you choke up to see the gulls sitting on the rail of the Cornelia Marie?
The stress wasn't limited to the Cornelia Marie, however. The Time Bandit captains Andy and Johnathon continue to struggle to find a new captain to take over for them so they can retire. They broke Mike Fourtner's heart by telling him he blew his chance towards the end of the season. And on the Northwestern Sig and Edgar had a heart to heart that was left unresolved. Edgar has been miserable all season. He's usually the first one to joke around on the Northwestern while Sig is the serious one but it has been almost painful to watch Edgar this season. He has been in physical pain with back issues throughout king crab and opilio crab fishing and I think that has him thinking of home and being with his family. I think it was pretty obvious watching the conversation with Sig and Edgar that they are miles apart in their feelings. Neither one seems to understand where the other is coming from but we did see Sig admit he's always been very hard on his youngest brother. When Edgar switched up the deckhands so that they were able to work the deck without him did you see Sig jump and take notice? That might have been the first time Sig took Edgar seriously in his talk of retirement. I hope Edgar is able to heal and come back because he and Sig are my favorite guys on the show. Also on the Northwestern, Jake Anderson was finally able to go home and join in the search for his missing father. I've heard they never found him and did hold a memorial service. My heart goes out to Jake for everything he has had to endure in the last year. Besides his missing father, he lost his sister last year.
So what did you think of this season of the show? I've cried during each episode in the last month. What do you think will happen next year? Phil Harris will be sorely missed. I can't imagine anyone else taking the Cornelia Marie permanently. But I will be there in April for next season to see how the story unfolds.
