46 Anglers Rescued from Lake Erie Ice Floe

(WHBC) – 46 Lake Erie fishermen were rescued by the Coast Guard and other agencies from an ice floe that broke off of Catawba Island north of Sandusky on Saturday morning.

Witnesses say another hundred ran or swam to safety as the ice shelf floated away from the island.

It served as a reminder of the advice given to wintertime anglers: “no ice is safe ice”.

No injuries were reported.
