In New York dogs that are recovering from abuse get an unusual private concert from a very accomplished musician. Martin Agee is a professional violinist and wanted to volunteer at the ASPCA. He jokingly said when he applied to volunteer, maybe I’ll play the violin for them. He had no idea what an impact he would have with the dogs.

After he went through his volunteer training he thought that maybe hearing classical music would actually help the recovering dogs. As soon as he started playing the response was amazing! He said the dogs stopped running around and barking when they heard the music. They relaxed and he could even see a change in their expression. He said within 30 seconds the dogs curl up and listen quietly.  He hopes that the music is able to help them heal from the abuse they’ve had in their lives.

He says it’s an emotional experience for him because he gets attached to the dogs so when he comes in and one dog from the previous week isn’t there anymore he’s sad because he misses playing for them, but he also hopes that they have found their forever home. He also hopes that in that new home they’ll have music.
