Canton Providing Grant Money to StarkFresh

(News/Talk 1480 WHBC) – The StarkFresh Mobile Grocery Market is receiving an $8500 CDBG grant from the city of Canton.

That will allow residents to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at five locations on Wednesdays and Thursdays through the end of September.

The “Veggie Mobile” as it’s called also visits other communities in the county.

Now in its sixth year of operation, StarkFresh’s Mobile Grocery Market starts its summer
schedule Wednesday, June 19 and ends on Thursday, September 26.

Featuring eleven locations this year, five of the stops will be serving the residents of Canton,
Ohio.

These stops include:
Wednesdays: 10:00am-10:30am Vassar Center, 1732 Market Ave N, Canton
2:45pm-3:30pm Mayfield Manor, 3844 11th St SW, Canton

Thursdays: 12:00pm-12:30pm Lifecare Family Health, 2725 Lincoln St E, Canton
12:45pm-1:15pm Future Gonder Grocery site, 1317 Gonder Ave SE, Canton
1:30pm-2:00pm Cherrie Turner, 700 McKinley Ave NW, Canton

The Mobile Market, sometimes called the “Veggie Mobile” is StarkFresh’s answer to bringing a
variety of low-cost produce and fresh foods to individuals with mobility challenges throughout
our community.

Since 2014, approximately 5,149 individual customers have purchased 50,515 pounds of food or
283,486 servings.

The Veggie Mobile travels throughout the county and delivers produce and
groceries to senior housing complexes, public housing authority properties, public service
centers, and permanent supportive housing sites as well areas as that are considered food deserts.

The Mobile Market features excellent quality, affordable food, accepts all payment types, cash,
credit, debit, WIC, Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Vouchers as well as SNAP/EBT (formerly
known as food stamps).
