Cavs Draft Vandy Point Guard 5th Overall

With the 5th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Vanderbilt point guard, Darius Garland. 

The 6’3, 175 pound freshman played in only 5 games for the Commodores, but impressed by averaging 16.2ppg and shooting 53% overall from the field and an impressive 48% from 3-point country.

A torn meniscus in his left knee is the reason he was limited to just 5 games, but reports say he has recovered completely.

DNA, his father Winston played 7 years in the NBA

 

WEAKNESSES:

Poor defender

Trouble finishing at the rim in traffic

Not a high flyer

Must get stronger

Must improve passing and taking care of the ball

 

With their second pick in the first round the Cavs drafted Belmont small forward Dylan Windler with the 26th pick. The 6’8 Windler averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds a game as a senior for the Bruins.
