They had the best odds along with the Knicks and Suns, but those ping-pong balls did not bounce the right way for the Cavs this time in the NBA Draft Lottery, as New Orleans won  the right to select Duke one-and-done phenom, Zion Williamson with the 1st overall pick in the June 20th NBA Draft. The Pelicans had a 6% chance of winning the lotterys

The Cavs ended up with the 5th overall pick in the draft, after having a 14% chance to win the 1st pick.

Owner Dan Gilbert was hoping that his franchise would get lucky for the 6th time and claim the number one overall pick, but it didn’t happen.  So Gilbert, G.M. Koby Altman and new head coach John Beilein will begin working on their draft strategy for pick number 5.

Last season the Cavaliers drafted 8th and selected guard, Collin Sexton from Alabama.
