When you go to a parade it’s very common for people in the parade to throw candy to the kids. But you never expect that candy to become a threat to your child’s life. But that happened in Texas recently. The high school cheerleaders were riding on a float when one of the cheerleaders saw a mom screaming for help as her 2 year old turned purple, choking on a piece of candy. Tyra Winters leaped off the float, ran to the mother, said ‘I’ve got this’, took the child in her arms, turned him over and gave him a few hits to the back which dislodged the candy and suddenly little Clarke was able to breathe again! Tyra learned the Heimlich maneuver as well as CPR several years earlier. Her mother is also in the health field and she is hoping to become a pediatric surgeon. She obviously proved she can be calm under pressure! The mom admits she doesn’t know the Heimlich maneuver but I bet she will learn how to do it soon!
