Flashback 2002: Java Joel talks to P. Diddy about his parties, R. Kelly & more (Audio)
Back in 2002, I was a little baby DJ at Kiss FM in Chicago. I did a night show with my friends “J. Dogg” and “Erica C.” Our show was called The Rubber Room.
In May of that year, I had the opportunity to do an interview with P. Diddy (aka Sean “Puffy” Combs, aka “Puff Daddy”, aka “Puffy”, aka… Oh nevermind).
Diddy was promoting his new album at the time, We Invented The Remix. It featured a couple of HUGE singles that were all over the radio that spring and summer of ’02.
“I Need A Girl Part 1” – Featuring Usher and a new artist, Loon.
And (the far superior), “I Need A Girl Part 2” – Featuring Loon, Ginuwine & Mario Winans.
Apart from the new album, some of the other things we talk about are his sex life, his legendary “parties” out in the Hamptons and his thoughts about the R. Kelly “situation”.
I love how relaxed everyone is during this interview. “Diddy” was pretty much an A-lister at the time. I also love how I had the balls to ask why he was doing a show with our competing radio station at the time. Oh, to be young and fearless. I wish I still had a little bit of that. Either way, I’m glad I found this tape. Enjoy this little blast from the past.
Break out the baby oil and enjoy.
