Night of The Living Dead (1990)

A lot of times, you go wrong when you remake a movie that is widely considered a classic. But, this is one of the rare exceptions where the true remake is able to hold it’s own. Since the public domain issue has caused a lot of awful spiritual remakes of ‘Night’, this film is really the highest bar. Directed by special effects guru, and friend of George A. Romero, Tom Savini, this version of the film is really well written and is a very true to the original remake.

Where it does take liberties, it actually livens things up. Turning Barbara into a Linda Hamilton-esque character from Terminator 2 is a move that actually works. The strong leadership of Ben is consistent and played beautifully by Tony Todd. Solid effects make this a must-watch!

Spoopy Fact: I once saw this movie on vacation when I was like 13 and it scared the hell out of me. Yup, I’m a giant baby.

Dawn of The Dead (1978)

Yeah, I like zombies. So what? But here’s the thing, THIS is my FAVORITE. It’s one of the best pieces of social commentary of the 1970’s. It’s also got some of the cheesiest practical effects sequences of any movie ever. But there is always a real tension and a rather anti-climactic ending really leave you spinning. Plus, there are fun set-pieces that will make the horror fan in you really cheer!
