The Stuff (1985)
This is easily the strangest movie on this list. Like, by a lot. But here is the thing, it’s only ridiculous because of how it played out. The actual themes are really smart and poignant. The concept of blind consumerism, governmental distrust and more. It really is smart. BUT.

The effects are laughable. Garrett Morris is amazing as a comedy relief character and ‘the stuff’ itself is the most hilarious horror device we see until something like “Slither”. It’s so bad, it’s hard to take it seriously for it’s social commentary. Like South Park trying to give you a serious history of the Founding Fathers.

I won’t spoil anything else so please make sure you see this film. It’s absolutely worth the laugh…and maybe a scare?

The Others (2001)
When you talk about a hidden gem, you are clearly talking about ‘The Others’. A turn of the century flick starring Nicole Kidman, this is a great slow burn with an awesome twist that went relatively unspoiled as the momentum for the movie built.

Most people would remember the marketing of the film for the infamous “But I AM your daughter” scene and that’s fine. If you saw the movie, you would remember getting drawn into the WW2-era feel and the element of anxiety and fear that drip all over the visuals and story.

It’s got a great ending and genuinely is one of the few movies that left me with a “WHAT THE….” feeling after the end.

Spoopy Fact: The film was originally planned to be shot in Spanish but because Tom Cruise was interested in producing the movie, it was filmed in English
