GoFundMe: About a Third of Money Raised on Site Has Been for Medical Expenses

GoFundMe gets a bad rap sometimes. We all know stories of people using the site for crazy reasons to raise money.
One-third of the money now raised on GoFundMe is actually for a good cause-to cover medical bills.
Back in 2010 when the site was launched it was for “ideas and dreams.”
During the first year, a bulk of the money raised was for charities and foundations. Medical was far down on the list.
The CEO of GoFundMe said, we didn’t build the platform to focus on medical expenses but it turned out to be one of the biggest categories of need.
