(ONN) – During National Police Week, Governor Mike DeWine is calling for a statewide standard in law enforcement pursuit policies.

“Every year we see people killed, and I’m not saying there should never be a police chase. That’s not what I’m saying at all, but what I am saying is that these are life and death decisions and it’s time Ohio had a statewide standard.”

He says state law requires agencies have a pursuit policy, but the content of each policy is up to each agency.

The governor has asked the state’s collaborative community-police advisory board to study the issue and produce a set of standards.
