In a move that bucks a current U.S. trend, the Illinois House on Tuesday approved a bill that extends a woman’s abortion rights.
Senate Bill 25, known as “the Reproductive Health Act,” calls for extending the period during which women can legally have abortions.
While the bill needs to be approved by the state Senate and the governor before it becomes law, the latter shouldn’t be an issue. In reaction to the vote, Governor J.B. Pritzker said, “As a lifelong advocate of a woman’s right to choose, I applaud the House for passing the Reproductive Healthcare Act and urge the Senate to take swift action on this critical piece of legislation.”
Is it just a coincidence that Illinois would tackle this bill now? Should this entire issue be dealt with on a federal level?
