There was a petition to change Halloween to the last Saturday of October. That failed. Then there was a petition to make Trick or Treat standard across the country and to have it the last Saturday of October. That hasn’t worked either. Now hundreds of thousands of school age kids are trying to get the day after Halloween off school. The petition is on Change.org.

Some of the opinions expressed include:
‘School on Friday would be pointless because no one would be able to focus because they are so tired.’
‘Halloween should be a time for kids to enjoy themselves and live their lives. They shouldn’t have to worry about how long they are out trick-or-treating because of school the next day.’

If I remember correctly the latest any trick-or-treating goes is 8:00.  Is that really too late for kids to head to bed to have enough sleep for school the next day?  Most kids end up staying up later than that on  a regular school night so I’m not sure why trick-or-treating would cut into their rest unless they’re allowed to eat ALL of their candy until midnight.

Obviously, this will not change anything this year because calendars are already set but if it is successful it might go into affect next year.
