(News/Talk 1480 WHBC) – A bus driver for Canton City Schools will not face charges after a police investigation into text messages he sent a young student.

On May 12th, a police report was filed that said “the 54-year-old male suspect engaged in conversation of a grooming nature with a juvenile victim.”

According to the report, the victim was a 10-year-old girl.

Prosecutors reviewed the case and determined the text messages were not criminal and did not warrant charges.

The Canton City School District suspended the bus driver after the allegation came to light, and he resigned before his disciplinary hearing could take place.

The district says the bus driver has been reported to the Ohio Department of Education with the intent of having his bus license revoked.

The district had sent a letter home with students on the driver’s route asking parents to check their cell phones for any texts that may be of a concern to them.
