Ohio May Have Stricter Teen Driving Laws
I think most parents hold their breath the first time their brand new teenage driver takes the car by themselves for the first time. Ohio state lawmakers are looking at a bill that would make driving laws stricter for the newest drivers.
The proposal would make drivers have to have their learner’s permit for a full year instead of the currently required 6 months. Also, probationary license holders would not be allowed to drive after 10:00pm without a parent in the car. There would be exceptions for work, school and religious functions.
This proposal is in response to increased injuries and deaths among teen drivers in Ohio recently.
I don’t think these changes are out of line. There are so many distractions for kids today and I think extra time practicing with an adult in the car advising them is never a bad thing. Plus there are so many situations you can’t anticipate that more time with someone in the passenger seat can’t hurt.
