I am not one to watch scary movies.  I know, I know, this is the time of year that everyone loves to watch horror films.  They just creep me out.   My brother and I watched ‘The Blair Witch Project’ years ago and when I saw what movie he chose I looked at him and said, ‘what were you thinking???’  Fortunately, his dog sat on the couch with me and every time I got scared I grabbed him.  That dog was a life saver for me.

My youngest niece LOVES horror movies!!  I was at the their house last year and was going out with my brother and sister-in-law and while we were gone my niece watched several horror films by herself with the lights off.  I never could’ve handled it!

Now, sometimes we have to watch a scary movie.  If your friends are really pressuring you to go see one here are a few tips that may help you not get nightmares after you watch it!

First, figure out what horror genres you can handle.  If the super gory stuff bothers you, try a psychological thriller or maybe a funny scary movie (that way you at least get a laugh sometime during the film!).

Feel free to shut your eyes at the real scary parts.  I do that.  I actually cover my eyes and if the sound is really nasty I’ll cover my ears, too!

Usually I avoid spoilers at all costs EXCEPT when I see a horror movie!  Then I want to know ALL that happens, when the worst of the scary parts are and when I just need to leave the room.

Watch with other people, unless they try to scare you worse than the movie.

There’s a creepy show I’ve been watching this season called ‘Evil’.  I watch it the next day because I’m find if it’s nice and sunny out I’m find but if it’s dark and I’m watching it I get all creeped out.  Maybe watching during the day will be better than watching a horror film at night.

Above all, know when to stop watching.  If you’re going to get nightmares, it’s not worth it.
