Newly adopted rules from the U.S. State Department is now requiring anyone seeking a visa to live or work in the U.S. must submit their social media information and five years worth of email addresses and phone numbers.
In the past, this kind of rule only applied to anyone seeking a visa who would be coming from a part of the world controlled by terrorist groups. The new policy will now affect over 14.7 million people traveling to the United States each year.
Required social media info includes account names on major sites like Facebook and Twitter. Anyone who lies about their info “will face serious immigration consequences”, according to officials.
