The Blob (1988)

Sometimes, a remake is a good idea. It can revive a once succesful or popular franchise. It can also give a fresh take on something that originally wasn’t too memorable. Then there is 1988’s ‘The Blob’.

Most people probably wouldn’t name the 1950’s version amongst their top horror movies but if you mention ‘the blob’ in the context of film, most people will remember the black and white classic. Nobody should tell you about the 1988 abomination.

Imagine if you remade Lord of the Rings but did it trying to stay under spending $10,000 with no CGI. The effects are laughable in this remake and there is really only one or two set pieces that are worth mentioning.

But damn if it isn’t something I’ll watch at least 3 times a year…

Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

The golden rule of Dracula is that he must be sexy. There is no sexier Dracula not named Christopher Lee than Gary Oldman. The cast is awesome. Anthony Hopkins, Winona Ryder and real-life ageless vampire Keanu Reeves all shine. Yes, there is nudity and a LOT of blood but this is one of the most true to book adaptations of Stoker’s horror classic.
