Train To Busan (2016)

Firstly, this movie is in Korean so there is some reading involved. A lot of it actually. But the story is incredible. It’s less a zombie movie and more of a tragic family story set in the zombie apocalypse. There are good moments of redemption from characters and genuine sadness when some of them inevitably die or turn to the undead.

Get ready for an emotional ride with this one. Oh, and a lot reading.

The Ring (2002)

Before you say it, yes, I know the original J-horror movie ‘Ringu’ was much better but it was better for different reasons. This was one of many American remakes of Asian horror films that we still see sprinkled in today.

Part of what makes the Asian horror genre so appealing is the true mythological origins of the stories. While the American versions do a lot to bleach those origins out because we have no equivalent, the horror and tension still remain and that’s something we can all take enjoyment from remaining.
